Liverpool teens put on Flash Show

Talented young photographers from Liverpool youth magazine “Youth Live” are hosting an exhibition of their art work at St George’s Hall Heritage Centre next week.

From December 1st to 13th, visitors will be able to see the culmination of a series of workshops where the young people worked with professional photographers earlier this year. The workshops were part of a project funded as part of Culture Liverpool’s Grassroots Innovators programme, part of the legacy of the Liverpool ’08 celebrations. Some of the work has also been published in Issue 9 of the quarterly “Youth Live” magazine which also hits the streets on Monday.

The photography on display covers a range of themes including the environment, culture, art and heritage. Some of the young people also had the chance to work in the studio with top Liverpool magazine photographer Matt Ford.

Some of the photography inspired some poetry contributions, featured in both the magazine and exhibition, where young people from Norris Green and Croxteth worked as part of the Liverpool Youth Service’s Splash programme with performance poet and Slambaster 2008 winner, 19 year-old Terence Whinnett.

Terence, who took over as Youth Live editor in October, said: “We are all very excited about this event. It is an opportunity to show just how talented and creative Liverpool young people are. Our designer, Barry Myles, has done a fantastic job getting everything ready for what is the first major public event for YCN. We are also thrilled to be joined by the Liverpool Lord Mayor, Councillor Storey.”
